Senior Research Associate - Criminal Justice
Martha Brown is the newest member of our team and serves as a Senior Research Associate with DNA. A quantitative, qualitative and mixed-methods researcher with deep values and roots in positive justice, Martha conducts research through a “restorative lens," allowing her to see, understand, and interpret data on school programming aligned with the values, philosophy, and practices of restorative justice. Martha is a former high school teacher, and has worked extensively with both the education and criminal justice systems, including as a volunteer with KAIROS Prison Ministries International. She also served as Re-Entry Coordinator with the Circuit 15 Public Defender’s Office in 2010, where she coordinated the 5 year strategic reentry plan with various cross-sector committees. She conducted an adult basic literacy study at a work release center in partnership with the Florida Department of Corrections and Bridges of America. She has strong qualitative skills and connects deeply with the communities, schools, organizations, adults, and youth she works with.
Martha received her Ph.D. in Florida Atlantic University’s College of Education. Her dissertation focused on multi-site, mixed-methods case study examining the relational ecology and implementation of restorative justice at two Oakland Unified middle schools. She is now heading RJAE Consulting out of Minnesota: https://www.rjaeconsulting.com/about-rjae-consulting.
Martha has been a professional singer and pianist for 30 years, and is still entertaining Florida audiences and accompanying ballet classes at Boca Ballet Theater. She loves snorkeling and hanging out with dolphins, seals, sea lions, whales, and other sea creatures, and enjoys a good, exhilarating hike in the mountains.
