The Data in Action Story
The inspiration behind Data In Action, LLC was born about ten years ago, prepped for, and yet realized only recently. I have always been inspired to make a difference in the world, with deep compassion, empathy and eagerness to do something...but not exactly sure how!! Having directly experienced many of the issues I'd like to alleviate, I profoundly believe in the power of resilience, community, and action. Having been in the public sector for over 20 years, working within the bounds, bureaucracies and possibilities of government system, research institution, university, community-based organization, and hospital settings, I've always felt as if I can do more working across these institutions.
Solidified by recent events, including the passing of my dear dad, a beloved professor of engineering and intellect who struggled to achieve his dreams with bipolar disorder; a recent trip (amongst others) to India where I witnessed the immense possibilities of what can be done to alleviate the indescribable human suffering and injustices; and a Women's Leaders of the World Training I was invited to participate in where I met 12 amazing women who are successful social entrepreneurs or leaders from the corporate world, making big differences - who are human beings just like you and me. Having 2 daughters of my own, and daily witnessing the horrendous abuse and suffering in this world, I am more and more inspired to increase awareness, empower and make a difference however I can. Now, it's time, to stop thinking and start doing - putting my compassion, skills, and talents to serve others.
There are millions of innovative nonprofit organizations, programs, and government systems making a difference -- working tirelessly to find and sustain solutions to the most critical social issues, working across systems, with committed leadership to make a positive change. Yet, not have the adequate time, capacity or resources to plan, monitor progress or evaluate the impact. Let alone, advance current knowledge in the field about best practices (though they might be employing those). Many well-intentioned programs are focusing on 'equity', 'social justice' and 'resilience' without having the tools and technical assistance to advance or measure these in practice. I am driven to support such innovative people and programs around the world to document the effectiveness of their strategies, measure what matters, and use data to drive decisions, policies and programs.
Data In Action was born from the idea that quality research, evaluation and development can make a difference in the lives of under-served children, women, families and communities around the world, by helping organizations, programs and systems become more effective, efficient and evidence-based.
DNA hopes to promote equity, justice, and health and human rights for all, in partnership with committed people and programs worldwide.
Yours,
