We abide by the following values and principles in all that we do:
1. Service
We long to be of service to communities, organizations, agencies, and change agents around the globe who are working tirelessly to resolve some of the world's biggest social issues. We work hard to understand and meet your unique programmatic needs.
2. Equity and justice above all
All people in all places deserve respect, fairness, justice and equality, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, place of birth etc. We work to create a world where this is a reality, through development of sustainable and effective solutions towards equity, justice and health for all. We use health and human rights and developmental-ecological perspectives, among others, to guide our methods and ensure basic human rights of all people are recognized and upheld.
3. Build trusting relationships
Collaboration is key. We believe in the collective power of people, united together in vision, thought and action to change the world. This is always much more effective and sustainable than working alone. Given the magnitude of social issues and limited resources today, the world needs all of us — across systems, communities, cultures, religions, genders, and ages — to work closely together towards shared vision and shared goals as one. It is increasingly essential that we break down the silos and connect for the greater good.
4. Reach for excellence and integrity
Quality and integrity of our work matters. We believe in doing the best we can, with what we have, to meet the client's given needs and resources. We have the highest standards of work ethics and integrity in all that we do.
5. Capitalize on strengths and resilience
Too much time, research and effort has focused on identifying and reducing risk factors. However, capitalizing on individual-, organizational-, and system-level strengths is far more effective in improving outcomes and ultimately reducing risks. We deeply value and possess strong expertise in understanding and measuring resilience and developmental assets in practice, theory and methods, applicable in different high risk populations, settings and situations.
6. Place matters
We believe that where you live, work and play determines your health outcomes, above and beyond individual characteristics. These are critical to measure through nested research designs and methods. With strong background in social determinants of health theory, methods and practice working directly in neighborhoods and schools, we are well-equipped to measure and advance upstream system-level, institutional-level and community-level changes.
7. Process matters as much as impact
Every person, program and community has a story! We believe that journey matters as much as the destination. We believe that the how, the with whom, the what worked, the relationships, and the lessons learned matter as much as the desired impact. In addition to using 'data' graphs and rigorous statistical analyses, we use various visualization techniques, e.g. stories, case studies, pictures, art, and videos to tell a story about the program and its people. We also believe in the power of effective facilitation in engaging all in the process, and capturing process measures to highlight program success. After all, systems change takes time.
8. Use data for action
We believe that data reports and research should be actively used to advocate, increase awareness, develop policies, improve program, obtain funding and above all, to make a difference — not to sit on bookshelves. By understanding user needs upfront, using participatory research methods, keeping key stakeholders engaged, and presenting selective data and stories in a simple, clear and creative way, we ensure that data is used for action.
